CrayolaMode is composed of three long-time friends with different backgrounds and sensibilities, but the same interest in art, fashion, design, food, and vintage. We created our account for fun, on a summer day, to share our tastes and vision with those who want to follow us!
We all grew up in Biarritz, France, which is our hometown, and forever our favorite place to be, but most of all, our place of choice for our annual gathering (one of us lives in Hong Kong and the rest of us travel a lot for work).
We used to spend a lot of time at the beach. We can’t say we decided to become artists but it is clear that we solidified our friendship, and artistic path with CrayolaMode in that context.
Everything started during a breakfast in front of the ocean, with some fashion magazines, printer paper stained by greasy finger prints (thanks to the French croissants), and laughter. We always try to keep this as our inspiration. For us, an illustration is not only a drawing, it’s a wink to our colorful way of life and cheeky way of thinking.
Each project is unique and exciting in its own way. In the last two years, we have had the opportunity to collaborate with brands and magazines from very different places and cultures. It’s always an incredible challenge for us, but we are always thrilled.
Most of the time we are approached for fashion illustrations, and that is an incredible opportunity because we absolutely love it! Sketches for publications such as Man Repeller, or papers like Zeit Magazine, are something we particularly enjoy doing.
We sometimes work on custom commissions such as private event invitations or special gifts. This is interesting because we get to share a lot with those people. Our illustrations have also been printed onto different types of media such as embroidered on bags with Storerooms in Hong Kong or printed on sweatshirts with StuffwithPrints.
We have to confess that we feel extremely proud when a brand directly asks us to illustrate a full collection. That’s what happened with this project we worked on with LHD. Laure Hediard Dubreuil from The Webster trusted us for the second time this year, and we’re very excited to get a little of Miami in our life!
