When the temperatures inch toward 90 degrees, there’s nothing better to throw on than a trusty, breathable summer dress. This season, more so than usual, there happens to be a plethora of options and decades to cull inspiration from.
For starters, fashion at large seems to be experiencing a Renaissance revival. Sleeves are bigger, necklines are more square in shape, and corsetry is officially back in style (even on the men’s ready-to-wear runways). Summer dresses in particular have taken on a Romeo and Juliet-esque bent, with mutton sleeves and cinched-in waists.
On the other hand, and in another era, we’re also still very much living out our old ’90s fantasies, including the Kate Moss favored ultra-mini dress. There are also crafty knit dresses and mixed floral prints that speak to a modern vibe—more 2018 magpie than Marie Antoinette.
